A Mysterious Test
Air Turret Challenge
Beyond the animals is a gigantic opening. You begin at the bottom of a huge ramp, and see a stone device that resembles a turret in front of you. The top of the ramp looks like a solid slab of rock, but there are actually 6 small openings and 1 huge one at the bottom. You can see these with perception (DC20 to notice at range, DC15 to actually see). Behind the turret, there are 5 slots arranged vertically. Stepping into the turret, you see two rocks attached to chains. Pulling on the right one causes the turret to shoot out a large burst of air, and pulling on the left one causes it to shoot out a more accurate burst. As soon as you pull one of them, the slots open at the top. 6 ray-like flying animals start flying towards you, and lava begins to slowly flow from the huge opening. You must use the air to stack the animals into a ladder and escape the chasm before the lava overcomes you.
Grid system: 6X8X12. All of the animals start at X:4, X being 1-6. A small blast can go below, to either side, or above, and will move the animal 2 squares or 1 diagonally. A large blast can either move one animal 3 squares in any direction, diagonally 1 square, or can go between two animals to move them both 2 squares, or 1 diagonally. You must alternate between the two. If you shoot at nothing, the concave nature of the wall will push the animals forward 1 square. You have time for 10 moves before the lava reaches you. You may use an ice orb to gain 2 more moves. If the lava would kill you (and you haven’t exhausted your extra life), a huge possessed ice creature will appear from over the cliffs and jump into the lava, freezing it permanently. You still have to get the animals right though; you’ll get a second shot if you fail. Use the animals as stepping stones and climb to the next level.
